June 2011: Narrative of Course Updates: Course Updates

Course Revision Note:

Please note that the information below will be changing.  We are working with local stakeholders to finalize details on improved marathon and half

courses.  Generally, we will improve safety, decrease uphill climbs, increase viewing opportunities, and lessen the impact of the event on local residents. Stay tuned as we are excited to unveil the changes in the spring of 2011.

This is a USATF certified course for the Marathon and Half-Marathon (Cert # WA 05007 BL).

Both courses start and finish at the U.S. Fish Hatchery. Marathoners run the half-marathon course twice. The course runs on a combination of scenic country roads and trails around Leavenworth bordering the Wenatchee National Forest and Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. Each course is about 10% dirt trail along the Wenatchee River in Waterfront Park.

Within the first 4 miles there is a two-mile ascent to a turn-around near the Snow Lakes Trailhead on Icicle Road.  After the two mile descent after the turn-around, the course is rolling.

You may not PR on this course, but it will likely be the most beautiful and scenic marathon course you have ever run.

Directions to start/finish
From Seattle:  Immediately upon entering town on US 2, turn right at Icicle Road (gas station on the corner) and go approximately 1.5 miles then turn left on East Leavenworth Road.  The Fish Hatchery parking lot is on the right about a quarter mile.
From Spokane: On US 2 entering Leavenworth, after the first stop light (with Safeway on the right) look for East Leavenworth Road on the left.  If you go over the Wenatchee River you've gone too far.  Follow East Leavenworth Road about 3 miles and start looking for the Fish Hatchery parking lot on the left.  If you get to Icicle Road, you've gone about a quarter mile too far.
